News Death Notice

UHL, Charles M. Jr., "Bud" Passed away with dignity and in peace on January 11, 2009 at Kettering Medical Center. Mr. Uhl was born in Greenfield, Ohio on April 23, 1923, the son of Charles M. Uhl & Gertrude Meiners Uhl. He resided in Greenfield, for nearly 79 years prior to moving in 2002 to the Homestead at Bethany Lutheran Village in Centerville, Ohio. He is well known in his hometown and at Bethany as a dedicated walker who greeted everyone with enthusiasm and respect. His discipline and devotion to walking not only extended the quality of his life but delighted those he met on his journey. Following graduation from McClain High School in 1942, Mr. Uhl served as a F.B.I. fingerprint analyst in Washington DC and later became an investigator for the War Department, Army Air Forces, Headquarters. Mr. Uhl married Teresa Denehy on July 31, 1948 in Wilmington, Ohio. He was an independent multiple-line insurance agent for 38 years, and served as president of the Chas. M. Uhl Agency, Inc. which his father established in 1910. Mr. Uhl served on the Board of Directors of 1st Security Bank and Fifth Third Bank of Ohio Valley from 1982 to 1994 and was an active Director Emeritus until his death. He served as past president, past Easter Seal chair and honorary trustee of Highland County Society for Children and Adults in Hillsboro, Ohio, past president of the Greenfield Chamber of Commerce, director and past president of Greenfield Industrial Development Fund and Community Improvement Corporations, past chair of Greenfield Recreation Commission, served on Highland County Republican Executive Committee, former member of B.P.O. Elks, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Greenfield Rotary Club. Mr. Uhl created the Charles M. Uhl, Jr. & Teresa D. Uhl Family Foundation in 2003. He was also a lifelong member of St. Benignus Catholic Church and past president of its parish council. Mr. Uhl was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa in 1984; sisters, Mary G. Uhl and Colette Uhl Cope. He is survived by his children, Denise Uhl (Larry) Jenkins of Beavercreek, Ohio, Michele Uhl (Al) Born of Cincinnati, Ohio and Annette Uhl (Tim) Poth of Beavercreek, Ohio; grandchildren, Emily Jenkins (Andrew) Denlinger of Centerville, Ohio, Capt. Michael Patrick (Lynn) Glass of Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi, Mallory Marie Glass of Notre Dame, Indiana, Robert Joseph Poth, Mary Therese Poth and Kathryn Ann Poth all of Beavercreek, Ohio; great-grandchild, Maggie Caroline Denlinger of Centerville, Ohio; brother, William G. Uhl of Centerville, Ohio; sisters, Margaret Uhl Hays and Theresa Uhl Shayne both of Greenfield, Ohio. Family will receive friends Wednesday, January 14, 2009 from 3:30 p.m. 7:30 p.m. at the Meyer-Boehmer & Reis Funeral Home, 1733 Brown St., Dayton, Ohio and again Thursday, January 15, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m. with Rosary Service at 10:45 a.m. at St. Benignus Catholic Church, 218 S. Second St., Greenfield, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the church at 11:30 a.m. with burial to follow at Greenfield Cemetery. It is Mr. Uhls wishes that memorial contributions be made to the Charles M. Uhl, Jr. and Teresa D. Uhl Family Foundation to perpetuate the philanthropic efforts which support the communities where his daughters and grandchildren reside.
