BRAND, David, H. "Dave" age 90 of Dayton, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 28, 2024. He was born March 7th, 1934 in Lincoln Nebraska to the late Oliver and Irene (Roseberry) Brand. David served his country in the U.S. Air Force, assigned to the Strategic Air Command. Graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering and The Ohio State University with his Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked at WPAFB for 38 years, retiring as the Director of Flight Test Engineering. David developed a 2nd career as a Nationally known Master Jeweler/Metals Artist and Teacher. He taught Lost Wax Casting for Jewelry and Sculpture as well as many other jewelry techniques at Riverbend Art Center, and at his studio, Mythic Silver. He was preceded in death by his first wife Eleanor C. Brand, son Stuart H. Brand, and brother Daniel Brand. Survived by his wife of 19 years, Sandra Picciano-Brand, 2 sons Steven D. Brand and his wife Michelle of Whiting, IN, Douglas A. Brand of Dayton, granddaughter Riley Wyrzykowski, and sister-in-law Pamela J. Hamms. The family will receive guests on Sunday, October 13th, 2024 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Baker-Hazel & Snider Funeral Home 5555 Philadelphia Dr. at N. Main St. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14th at the Woodland Mausoleum Chapel. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). So sorry to hear of David's passing. He taught me most of what I know about metal casting, beginning early at Riverbend and more recently at Front Street. David had the unique blend of an engineer's ability to figure out complexities & the creative artist which made him a wonderful teacher!!
I enjoyed our discussions about tools and I will really miss him.
