I met the Scotts when I was hired at Knollwood Garden Center in Beavercreek in 1994. I really enjoyed working for/with them the three years I spent in their employ. Dave was rather stoic and reminded so much of my own father, I couldn´t resist pulling some mild practical jokes, often aided and abetted by his wife... telling him I used the different colors of flowers to spell risqué words in the flower beds (he went out to check), showing up with my arm in a sling to wrap poinsettias (he didn´t want to tell me to go home, but he didn´t want to pay me to wrap one poinsettia per hour either). He was SO relieved to find out there was nothing wrong with my arm. Showing up with a *fake* nose ring... (facial jewelry was not permitted on the sales floor at the time). Telling him "finders keepers, losers weepers" when I found his family heirloom pocketknife near the bulk grass seed bins. I returned it immediately when he made it clear it wouldn´t be going anywhere without him, lol! I also carved his face (and Bob´s) onto pumpkins when he told me to carve scary faces for a store display.
Dave and my husband, Steve, often had in-depth discussions about the Ohio State Buckeyes and what they could be doing better as a team, lol!
I have so many great memories from my time working with all the Scotts and you all have my deepest condolences for your loss.
