Dewey Griffith

1933 - 2018

GRIFFITH, Dewey E. 85, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 10, 2018. Dewey was born on October 2, 1933, in Paintsville, Kentucky, the son of the late Jay and Mima (Anthington) Griffith. He is survived by his beloved wife whom he just celebrated his 60th anniversary with on Nov. 1, Pauline (Daniel) Griffith; daughters, Vickie Shaffer and Deborah Sparrow; grandsons, Shaun Shaffer, Aaron Voland (Stephanie Boyer), Jeremy Stumbo and Jason Sparrow; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Grethel (Kenneth) Preston; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur (Mary), Bill (Anna Mae) and Ted (Brenda); sister, Beatrice (Bob) Daniels; and granddaughter-in-law, Sarah Sparrow. Dewey was a selfless and caring man of integrity and compassion. He always put others first and his family was before anything else. He was the cornerstone of his family, always teaching, fixing, providing and alongside his devoted wife, they would lead by example. His work ethic was unmatched and there was nothing he could not fix. Dewey was an excellent mechanic and also retired from the Noxious Tree Company in 1998. If he wasn't helping family or friends, you could find him passing the time by watching the Andy Griffith Show. The time he spent with his family, especially his grandsons and great-grandchildren were priceless moments that he always treasured. Although hard to say goodbye to such a wonderful man, the legacy he passed down to his family will always be cherished. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 from 4-7p.m. at JACKSON LYTLE & LEWIS LIFE CELEBRATION CENTER. A service to celebrate his life will be on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at 1:00p.m. also at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
