Eldon Studebaker was a wise and gentle person. His love and respect for all of life was most revealed in his caring and patient approach to his nursery work. As a high school worker on the nursery I remember very distinctly his relationship with us was very similar. As with his plants, he took the time to get to know us. I remember one day he pulled me from the work crew to go off and work with him in another part of the nursery where, as we worked hoeing weeds, he shared his life story and at the same time took measure of my character. He wanted to know what interested me and where I was going in life. He cared enough to ask the questions and listen to the answers I gave, as ill formed as they were. He understood his responsibility to nurture the next generation just as he nurtured the plants of the nursery, by observing, asking the right questions, and listening. I will always carry that hot summer afternoon in my memories. He touched my life with his example. Eldon's life was a life well lived because he took the time to do what was right for all of the right reasons. What a great legacy to pass on.

Mr. Studebaker was such an asset to the agricultural and church community. There aren't many like him. Our sympathies are with the family.
