Eugene IMBROGNO Obituary

IMBROGNO, Dr. Eugene "Dean" Age of 62, died on September 8th, 2016. Since 1985, Dr. Imbrogno has been the Medical Director and Head Physician for MedWork Occupational Health Care. The son of Italian immigrant Edward Imbrogno and Esther Bizcykowski, Dean was born February 1, 1954 in Lorain, OH. In high school he wrestled and played football as a running back. Classmates looked up to him and to this day remember him as intelligent, athletic, mature, and most importantly humble. He then attended The Ohio State University, graduating with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and went on to medical school at Wright State University. There he completed his residency in Emergency Medicine. Cultivating an insatiable curiosity and a lifelong passion for learning, he excelled in his undergraduate studies at OSU. While working in the emergency department at Miami Valley Hospital, Dr. Imbrogno was first introduced to Occupational Medicine, which would become his hallmark career. He then received further training in Occupational Medicine at the University of Cincinnati and also completed a Masters of Public Health from the University of Michigan. At Wright State he met the love of his life and future wife, a fellow med student, Diane Marie Foley (retired Anesthesiologist at Kettering Hospital). They affirmed their lifelong dedication to each other through marriage on September 6, 1980. They would go on to raise three boys, Brian (radiologist, Columbus), Tyler (musician, Denver) and David (engineer, Dayton). His favorite pastimes included golfing, boating, reading, watching movies, family holidays, and travelling, and he was equally at home with a hot dog at the ballpark or a glass of scotch and a cigar on the deck of his Norris Lake house. To his family, friends, and everyone who knew him, Dean was a rock and an anchor. People came to him for advice, and he could always calmly and confidently offer sound guidance. He also approached every aspect of life with an open mind and heart. He found stability in tradition and family values but always strived to understand different perspectives, worldviews, and alternative ideas about medicine and spirituality. He was loved and respected by everyone who knew him, and will be sorely missed. Dean was preceded in death by his father Edward. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Diane; children, Brian Imbrogno, MD, Tyler Imbrogno, David Imbrogno; mother, Esther Imbrogno; sister, Dianne DeHayes; brothers, Daniel (Karrie) and Edward (Terri) Imbrogno; sisters-in-law, Helen (Jeff) Owen and Carol Foley; brother-in-law, Shawn Foley; and many other nieces, nephews family members and friends. Family will greet friends from 5:00pm-9:00pm on Friday, September 16, 2016 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering, OH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at St. Henry's Catholic Church, 6696 Springboro Pike, Dayton, OH. Burial will follow at David's Cemetery. The family would appreciate flowers, but donations may also be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Homeless Shelter at 124 W Apple St, Dayton, OH 45402 in memory of Dr. Imbrogno. Condolences and other remembrances may be sent to the family at www.routsong.com.

February 25, 2019

I just happen to stumble on this today. I went to school with Dean at Lhs although he's 2 years older. My son presently is employed at Miami Valley Hospital ER medicine. My son Dr Matt and his girlfriend both started at Kettering, last year my son signed on at Miami Valley but his girlfriend is presently employed at Kettering also in ER medicine Dr Olivia, they too went through Med school together. Matt also went to Lorain City Schools and was raised all his life in Lorain and also attended OSU and Wright State. I told him about Dean since that is my name also to carry out the Good work of Dr Dean Imbrogno. My deepest sympathy to the family, I did look up to Dean as an underclass man. He Always walked tall filled with confidence. A healthy and popular young man at Lhs, a great high school.

Diane,
I remain saddened by Dean's untimely death and your deep loss. When I reminisce about our medical school years I always think of the two of you as a unit--DeanandDiane, never Dean, and Diane. Your love for each other was special, and is one of my lasting memories.
In sympathy,

His solid clinical recommendations, common sense based judgement and consistently good humor will be deeply missed by everyone who met him. His loss will be felt throughout our agency and nowhere more than by me.

I couldn't believe it when I was informed of Dean's death. I was currently working with him on a "new" project, and had spent the afternoon with him a few days prior. Many times I relied on his expertise in occupational health. He taught me so much. My sincere sympathy goes out to the entire family. I will be out of town, or I would there Friday to pay my respects. So sad.

Dean was an year ahead of me at Lorain High and at OSU. However, whenever we would pass each other at school or on campus, he always took time to stop and ask, "How things going Veach'y". He always had a smile on his face and always offered words of encouragement by sharing his friendship and what was going on in our lives. Dean was a friend, someone I looked up to, and saw in him a "down home Lorain boy done Good". He will be missed.

My sincere condolences to the entire Imbrogno family. Your are in are thoughts and prayers.

Imbrogno Family,

I am still at a loss for words. Dean was one of the nicest, most genuine people I ever met. When people move on, you have to judge them by the legacy they leave, and based on Dean's legacy, he was a truly great man.

We are truly sorry for your loss.
