Herman LEFFEW Obituary
News Death Notice
LEFFEW, Herman W. Age 86, passed away Sunday April 6, 2014 at Bethany Lutheran Village. He was born November 8, 1927 in Springfield, Ohio to William Delbert Claybourne Leffew and Dorothy Mae (Hillard) Leffew, the 3rd of 10 children. Herman served his country with honor, earning three bronze stars as well as many other medals in the U.S. Army and Air Force Reserves, served in Korea and saw a lot of combat, especially in the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir. He was passionate about aviation. Herman was a member of Leading Edge Aircraft. They enjoyed building and restoring vintage aircraft, attended aviation trade show competitions winning numerous national awards. He retired from City Loan & Savings where he worked as Assistant Manager. Herman is preceded in death by two sisters Joy Keiser and Norma Loy. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce E. (Booher) Leffew, two sons Stephen E. (Kathy) of Centerville, William G. (Charlyn) of Louisville, Kentucky, one daughter Karen Purvis of Dayton, seven grandchildren Stephanie, Sarah, Scott (Jennifer), Stacy (Thomas), Jason (Amanda), Justin (Nicole) and Lauren (Jason), nine great grandchildren, three brothers Raloh W. Leffew of Huber Heights, Jerry D. Leffew of West Milton, Jack K. Leffew (Susan) of Greenville, four sisters Rose Lee Shelton of Dayton, Faith J. Page of Kettering, Pat Smith (Cliff) of Centerville and Judy R. Payne (Bob) of Dayton. There will be a gathering of family and friends Friday, 5-7 pm at Conner & Koch Funeral Home. A celebration of Herman's life immediately follows at 7:00 pm with Pastor Ralph Vencil officiating.
