Remembering Homer: A Fisherman, Family Man, and Adventurer
It´s hard to believe my uncle Homer is no longer with us. To say that I'm shocked would be an understatement. I only found out about his passing after his burial, and the news has left me grappling with the reality of a world without him. I spoke with him several months ago, and he didn´t mention anything about being unwell. He was always strong, steady, and full of life. It´s a reminder that we never know how much time we have, so we should hold dear the moments we share.
For many years of my youth, Homer and I shared a love for the outdoors. We spent many hours hunting together in Madison and Clark counties, enjoying the quiet beauty of the woods, the thrill of the hunt, and the shared time we spent in nature. I´ll always cherish those days and the memories of laughter and conversation while we tracked through fields and forests.
But beyond hunting, Homer had a deep love for fishing. He told me once that he had fished in almost every lake in Florida, making annual trips there to escape the Ohio winters looking for the next big bass. Those trips were a highlight of his year, a time to relax and do what he loved most. They both enjoyed fishing and after Aunt Pam passed away in 2005, those trips became even more meaningful to him.
Now that he´s gone, I find comfort in the thought that he´s once again with Aunt Pam. Wherever they are, I can picture them together-fishing once more, perhaps in the same peaceful lakes they loved, talking about the good old days and enjoying each other´s company once again. That´s the beauty of their love: it never truly ends.
It´s strange to think that Homer is no longer around, but I know he´s at peace. As he´s reunited with Aunt Pam, I´m sure they´re enjoying those quiet moments fishing together, like they used to. It feels like a fitting way for Homer to move on-surrounded by the things that brought him the most joy in life.
Godspeed, Uncle Homer. You will be missed, but you will never be forgotten. I´ll always carry those memories with me of our times hunting and the many family gatherings we shared.
