Suber, Howard Eugene

Howard Eugene Suber, 97 of Fletcher, Ohio passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025, in Garbry Ridge Nursing Home, Piqua, Ohio.

Howard was born on March 15, 1927, in Fletcher, Ohio to the late William Diltz and Hazel Martha (Counts) Suber.

A proud charter member of the Fletcher Lion's Club, Howard's commitment to his community was unmatched. He served as Chief of the Fletcher Fire Department for 32 years. Howard also had a passion for public service, having been a former member of the Boards of the Miami County Health Department, Fletcher Board of Public Affairs, Fletcher Cemetery Board. Howard was also a proud and active member in the Fletcher United Methodist Church, where he sang bass in the choir. His contributions to all organizations left a lasting legacy of care and service.

During World War II, Howard served in the United States Navy, honoring his country with pride. His love for service carried on in his professional life as well. For 50 years, Howard carried on a family legacy as the third generation at Suber Funeral Home. From a young age, he was immersed in the compassionate art of guiding families through their most difficult moments, often by his father's side. It wasn't just a job; it was a calling one that allowed Howard to weave deep, enduring connections with families, creating bonds that spanned generations. Howard also owned and operated the Suber Hardware store that his grandfather, John Suber built. He served the community for many years at the store with his father William.

Howard is survived by his daughter, Janet (Rob) Fulton; son, John (Suzan) Suber; stepchildren, Nancy (Don) Foster, Larry (Barb) Coffing, David (Carla) Coffing; grandchildren, Michael (Molly) Suber, Christopher (Mollie) Suber, Abby (Thomas) Seymour, Benjamin (Carly) Fulton, Matthew (Erin) Fulton, Jesse (Christine) Fulton, Annie (Jeff) Polack; Step grandchildren, Lizzie, Jennie, Jonathan, Stephanie, Christopher 16 great grandchildren; sister, Joyce (Junior) Putnam; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Howard is preceded in death by his parents; 1st wife, Betty Mae Ebberts; 2nd wife, Margaret Coffing; daughter, Beverly Ann Suber; and great-grandson, Luke Fulton.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, in SUBER, SHIVELY & VERNON Funeral Home, Fletcher, Ohio.

Funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home with Rev. Rob Fulton officiating.

Serving as honorary pallbearers in Howard's memory will be Michael Suber, Christopher Suber, Abby Suber-Seymour, Benjamin Fulton, Matthew Fulton, Jesse Fulton, Annie Fulton.

Burial will follow in Fletcher Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made either to the Betty Suber Memorial Scholarship Fund (201 W Main Street, Fletcher, OH 45326) or the Fletcher United Methodist Church (205 S Walnut St, Fletcher, OH 45326).
