My condolences to J.'s family. I knew him at George Air Force Base in the early 1980s. I was the Supply Sq. First Sergeant and he was our dormitory manager, and an extraordinary one at that. Our dorm won award after award. Occasionally, we did not follow all the rules and sometimes got called on the carpet to answer for it. J. (that's how we knew him as) and I were both combat decorated Vietnam vets and we made a point of wearing every decoration we had. Dressed to the hilt, we would go get summarily chewed out by the base commander who didn't really care what we had "procured" for the dorm. He knew he had a place to show off when "high rollers" came to the base. He was really fun and I sure learned a lot from him! Goodbye, old buddy.
