John Pitman Obituary


News Death Notice

PITMAN, John B. age 88, of Dayton, departed this life on Sunday, April 11, 2010. He was born on March 9, 1922 to the union of Robert and Estella Pitman. He was the youngest of eleven children. John graduated from Dunbar High School and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942. He served with great integrity until he was honorably discharged in 1946. In June of 1947, he married the love of his life, Eleanore J. Price. John professed his faith in Jesus Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Zion Baptist Church. He retired from the United States Postal Service with over thirty years of service. He is preceded in death by his wife, Eleanore; his parents and all of his siblings, Margauerite, Frances, Irma, Aurelia, Lucille, Charles, Wilbur, Edward, George, and Robert Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory; his brother-in-law, David H. (Mildred) Price; sister-in-law, Pauline V. Pitman; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services 11:00 A.M., FRIDAY, April 16, 2010 at ZION BAPTIST CHURCH, 1684 Earlham Dr., Reverend Dr. Brodie Mathis, Pastor, with Reverend Rockney Carter, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment will be held at Dayton National Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Thomas Funeral Home, 4520 Salem Ave. On line condolences may also be sent to the family at www.thomasfunerals.com
