Joyce Smith Obituary

Smith (Foley), Joyce A.

Joyce A. Smith, 86, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on March 31, 1939, in Springfield, the daughter of the late Arnold J. and Dorothy (Baker) Foley.

Joyce grew up in the Springfield area and graduated from Northeastern High School with the class of 1957. From a young age, she showed a natural creative ability that stayed with her throughout her life. Her passion for crafting, especially floral design, inspired her to further her education at the Indianapolis School of Floral Design. With both skill and vision, she created floral arrangements that brightened countless special occasions. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to open and operate Trunk Treasurers in Northridge for 13 years, a business remembered for its charm and for the warmth she extended to everyone who came through its doors.

Faith played a central role in Joyce's life. As a dedicated member of the Maiden Lane Church of God, she found joy and purpose in serving others. Together with her husband, Myron, they shared a deep passion for helping children. The couple opened their home as foster parents for many years, providing not only safety and stability, but also love, encouragement, and guidance. Their shared commitment to the well-being of children touched countless young lives and left a lasting legacy of compassion. Her grandchildren described her as "the most caring person and one of the best people ever," words that truly reflect her character. She will be remembered for her generosity, her creativity, and her constant devotion to family, friends, and community.

Joyce is survived by her children: Gregg (Debbie) Bare, Gary (Kelly) Bare, David (Karen) Smith, Mary (Bill) Tucker, Bruce (Keri) Smith, and Tonicia Smith; special family member, Anthony Kidd and his son, Tre'; grandchildren: Nick, Niki, Ronnie, Adam, Kristen, Andrew "AJ", Brian, Quenten, Tyler, Maleah, Brookelyn, Brock, Karli, Kamyron and Rees and 11 great-grandchildren who brought her great joy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Myron; her sister, Patricia Yates; and her grandson, Matthew.

Services celebrating Joyce's life will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Littleton & Rue Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. A private burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, HOPE, or the Children's Rescue Center. Joyce's life was defined by kindness, faith, and the joy she found in caring for others. Though she will be deeply missed, her influence will live on in the many lives she touched.
