Larry Sprouse Obituary

Sprouse, Larry A.

A valued member of the Dayton community, left this world on September 15, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on November 12, 1936, in Richmond, Virginia, Larry grew up with a spirit of determination and a commitment to service that would shape his life's work and relationships. In the 1960s, Larry made a significant impact in the Dayton area as one of the original builders of Huber Heights homes. His legacy in construction was just the beginning of a varied and impactful career. He worked for Shannon Buick, now known as Reichard, for many years before retiring from there. While at the dealership, Larry held various positions. His dedication extended beyond his professional pursuits; he proudly served in the U.S. Army, instilling in him a strong sense of duty and discipline. Larry also contributed to the safety and well-being of his community through his role with the Dayton Police Department, where he became well-known for his beat at the Arcade and Convention Center. Alongside his dear friend, Herb Long, Larry served as a volunteer with various local law enforcement agencies, including the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in their Crime Alert Program. They once won the Crime Stoppers of the Year Award. His skills as a Private Detective showcased his exceptional ability to read people, a talent that proved invaluable throughout his policing career. Known for his laid-back demeanor, Larry was a man whose warmth drew people to him. His ability to connect with others and his genuine kindness left an indelible mark on those who were fortunate enough to know him. Outside of work, Larry found joy in simple pleasures, including spending time with dogs and enjoying peaceful moments fishing. Larry's family was a source of great pride and happiness in his life. He is survived by his beloved son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Diane Sprouse; grandchildren, Allison Hannah (Anthony) and Andrew Sprouse (Markie); and great-grandson, Emmett. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Linwood and Estelle Sprouse, and his sister, Elaine. As we remember Larry, we celebrate a life rich with love, service, and the quiet strength he offered to those around him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of his family and friends. The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Larry's memory to the Alzheimer's Association or to a local humane society.
