News Death Notice

STRAUS, Leo Passed away April 4, 2015 at Brookhaven in Brookville, Ohio. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 9, 1919, son of the late Cecelia and Meyer Straus. Leo was the last surviving brother of four sons. He served in W. W. II in the 284th Engineering Battalion, participating in the Battle of the Bulge and the taking of the Remagen Bridge. A graduate of Purdue University, he accepted a position with the City of Dayton Engineering Department. He was a public servant for the City of Dayton for 36 years, retiring as the Director of Central Services. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanne, of 69 years and four children: David of Georgetown, Texas; Laurie (Timothy) Gregg of Lebanon, Ohio; Amy (Gordon) Geist of Loveland, Ohio; and Robert of Troy, Ohio. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren: Emily (Nathan) Brattain; Meaghan (Timothy) Osborn; Evan (Megan) Geist; and great granddaughter Magnolia Brattain. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed. The family would like to thank Tonya Kuntz of Hospice of Dayton for her wonderful care and Barb and Brandy of Brookhaven nursing staff for their support. A Memorial Service will be held 11 AM Friday, April 10, 2015 in the mausoleum chapel at Woodland Cemetery, 118 Woodland Ave., Dayton, OH 45409. The family will receive visitors 10:30-11 AM Friday, April 10, 2015 in the mausoleum chapel at Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420. Online memories and condolences may be left for the family at www.bakerhazelsnider.com
