Louis BENAVIDES Obituary

News Death Notice

BENAVIDES, Louis A. Age 80, of Beavercreek, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Kindred Hospital in Dayton. The son of Luis M. and Ferol Perkins Benavides, Louis was born in Laredo, Texas on October 24, 1935, but grew up in San Antonio. After high school, Louis attended and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin, and later served as a Medic in the US Army. In 1959, he married the late Linda Hunter Benavides, also of Texas, and began his civil service career with the Air Force Logistics Command at Kelly AFB. When Louis was reassigned to Wright Patterson AFB, the family relocated to the Dayton area. Except for a two year assignment to Langley Air Force Base and a six month attendance at the USAF Management School in Virginia, his entire career was spent at WPAFB where he managed advanced electronics and fighter aircraft programs. After his retirement, Louis taught computer applications at Wright State University for a number of years. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Louis and his wife maintained an active social life, and contributed to the greater Dayton area in various ways. They were long time volunteers with the Victoria Theater. He was an active member of the Beavercreek Rotary, over the years serving in various capacities, including chapter president. Devout Episcopalians, he and his wife were extremely active in both St David's and St Mark's Episcopal Churches for many years. Louis was a man of many talents and broad interests. He was a gourmet cook, who at one time taught this skill, a devotee of classical music and opera, and a fine musician in his own right. He was well read and widely traveled, but his family, to whom he was completely devoted, was always his foremost interest. Survivors include daughter, Kendall Benavides Rubino; son-in-law, Anthony J. Rubino; son, Hunter W. Benavides; sister, Ferol Benavides Dougherty; brother-in-law, Michael A. Dougherty, three grandchildren, three great -grandchildren, one niece and one nephew. Visitation will be Friday, August 26, from 5-8 PM at Tobias Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel. Funeral Service 1:00PM at St Mark's Episcopal Church; 456 Woodman Drive, Dayton, Ohio. Interment at Beaver Cemetery, Beavercreek, Ohio. A reception will follow at St Marks after the cemetery service. Condolences@ tobiasfuneralhome.com.

My condolences to Louis's Family! We worked together at WPAFB in the AMIS Office for several years. Louis was intelligent, hard-working, and put Family first. It was much to my benefit to work with him and to have known Linda. Our more recent chats were in Krogers. He was always smiling and upbeat. He will be missed!! Joe Sowder
