Not sure what to say?

April 25, 2009

I just learned of Marilyn's passing and I'm sorry I didn't know of her illness. We began working together in 1964 when Centerville was just a sleepy village. She always had the highest standards and ethics which often caused her to butt heads with others who had less ethics. She was a great role model to a kid (me) who was just 17 at the time. She made a great impression on my life. Although I retired several years ago and moved from the area, I have often thought of Marilyn. She will be greatly missed and my thoughts and prayers are with her family.

I had the pleasure of serving on the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) Board with Marilyn and enjoyed seeing her at the annual conferences. Marilyn was a delight, knowledgeable, approachable, and a great example for me. A true professional. It was pleasure knowing her. She will be missed.

Scott, we are very sad to hear. She was very young....(as are you) to have to bear this. There are no words to properly express. Our hearts go out to you.

Dear Phil,

I wish to express my sympathy to you and your family members. Marilyn was a wonderful friend and the very best example of what a municipal clerk should be. Marilyn and I go back a few years and I once joked with her that we were so quiet and shy. How that changed over the years as we got to know each other. My husband and I attended the church service this morning but had to get back to Columbus and did not stay for the reception. You are in our thoughts and prayers and I will always remember Marilyn as a positive and warm-hearted friend. Love, Janice and John Yarrington

Dear Phil and Scott,

We were very saddened to learn of Marilyn's passing. It has been 41 years since we worked on the Centerville Charter, but I would see Marilyn when I was on the Council and the Planning Commission. And would run into her on later occasions. She will be missed!

Phil and Scott,

I have so many treasured memories of living next door to your family. When we moved there in 1973, we couldn't have dreamed of better neighbors. "Mr. and Mrs. McLaughlin" became like another set of parents and I considered Scott my little brother. I'll always remember "babysitting" Scott for several summers, sharing special moments like graduations and weddings and just the daily stuff of life our families shared through the years - so many blessings. Your family brought beauty into our lives and hearts in more ways than I can count. My heart breaks for you at this time of sorrow. Marilyn will be remembered for the great love she showed to others and for a life well-lived.
