I first met Mark when Bill Klosterman guided me to hire Graphica to help brand our global multi-billion chemical company. Mark became a valued and critical member of our extended communications team, helping us to rename our corporation, rebrand and re-image our company and reposition us in the industry. In addition to our professional relationship, he became a good friend. A great athlete, he could hit the golf ball a mile despite the maladies of middle age. I always had a great time kidding him when we were out to eat, as he abhorred garlic and onions and would always interrogate the waiter, "Is there garlic in that?!!" He was a kind and gentle man, and also a fierce competitor. That mix made him successful in business, and I believe, in life. I was shocked to hear Mark had passed - he had a vigor, physicality and youthfulness that defied his age. I'll plan to cook for him when we meet again - secretly adding garlic, of course.
