KABRISKY, Matthew Dr. 80 of Beavercreek, Ohio, died peacefully Friday February 18th, 2011, among friends and family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Mineloa, New York, to the late Matthew and Wanda (Winkiel) Kabriski. Matthew was a graduate of Newtown High School and attended Polytechnic University of New York University in Brooklyn, where he received Bachelors and Masters degrees in Electrical Engineering. Matthew spent 10 years in the Air Force, beginning in 1955 , as an Air Force pilot cadet. He received his Doctorate in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois in Champagne-Urbana in 1962. Matthew was especially interested in the study of consciousness in the human brain, and it was around this time that he began his studies of neural networks. He spent time as an exchange professor at the Cranfield Technological School of Engineering in Cranfield, England. Matthew was a Professor Emeritus at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), the Air Force's graduate school in Dayton, Ohio. He retired in 1992 after 20 years of service as a Civil Servant to the US Government. During his tenure at AFIT he taught graduate courses in Human Factors, Math Modeling of the Central Nervous Systems and Computational Intelligence. He was the advisor for over 250 graduate students and authored over 450 publications, including 4 books. His model of the human visual is the seminal work in the area and has stimulated a revolution in artificial intelligence. His current research interest includes a model for human consciousness that is leading to great innovations integrating humans and computers to solve problems in medical and military information processing. Matthew is the founder of Quest Research Consortium. His current research can be viewed at: qualellc.wordpress.com. He was the co-founder and consultant at Quale LLC up until his passing. All his life, Matthew was a man of science who believed that every idea should have a testable hypothesis in order to show evidence of truth. He had a never-ending passion for knowledge and was able to give a 15-minute lecture on any topic. Matthew loved classical music. His favorite composer was Schubert and he especially loved Schubert "lieder," or love songs. Matthew loved engaging people in conversation and was very interested in learning new ideas. He learned to fly airplanes in New Jersey as a private pilot in 1955, something he immensely enjoyed. He enjoyed teaching and was an instructor of the Honors Seminars of Metropolitan of Dayton during his retirement. Matthew loved engaging people in conversation and was very interested in learning new ideas. His humor and love for others brought laughter at social gatherings. He was a great fan of nature and in protecting the wild spaces on this earth. Married for 53 years, Matthew is survived by his wife Barbara Tong Kabrisky, his daughters and sons-in-laws Linda (John) Salzer-Schauer and Katherine (John) Gaskill. Grandchildren Matthew and Emma Gaskill, and Daniel and Rebecca Salzer, brother Dr. Richard Karoll in Ridgecrest, CA, and sister Marilyn Alexander in Atlanta, GA, numerous nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Benji and Thomas the cat. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and teacher and will be missed greatly by all who knew him. His family would like to express deep gratitude to the staff of Bethany Lutheran Village Rehabilitation Center and Hospice of Dayton for the excellent care Matthew received.
