SHIELDS-DEAN, Nellie age 78 of Dayton, passed away Monday, October 18, 2004. Nellie was born, January 20, 1926 in Bay Shore, NY, the daughter of the late Gray G. and Hilda Anderson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 21 years, Vincent Shields Jr. and her brother Gray R. Anderson. Nellie retired from DESC after many years of service. She was a member of the St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Survivors include her sons Billy Martin of Ft. Myers, FL and Richard Dean of Dayton and her step-daughter Mary Shields of Moraine; grandchildren Joelle Hunn, Nathan and Brandon Shields; siblings George and wife Virginia Anderson of Norwich, NY; Hilda and husband Jim Carpenter of Harpursville, NY, John Anderson of Georgetown, NY, Linda and husband Ed Carkuff of Pittsfield, NY, and Nancy Anderson of Cedar Rapids, IA; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday, October 22, 2004 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church 456 Woodman Drive, with The Rev. Michael Kreutzer officiating. Entombment will follow in Heritage Hills Memorial Gardens in Springboro. Family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday at the church. In Nellie's memory, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Arrangements entrusted to Newcomer-Farley Funeral Home North Chapel.
