News Death Notice
EVANS, Richard L. "Rick" "Pop" Age 79, of Dayton passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 9, 2013. Since retiring from the U.S.A.F. and U.S. Postal Service, his time was mostly spent sharing his love of music with others. As a jazz vocalist, hes best Known for performing with The Masters of Jazz band, and in venues all around the area, including Jazz Central, at Urban Nights, and numerous nursing homes. In 2010, he was the proud recipient of the MCACD Lifetime Achievement Award. Formerly attended Mt. Enon Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by daughter, Teressa, and is survived by his children, Rehema (Kimaru) Wa-Tenza, Darryl (Margaret), Richard (Cheryl), and Debra (Jerry) Haynes; grandson David, and a host of other grand and great-grand children. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 17 @6PM at Thomas Funeral Home, 4520 Salem Ave. A committal service will be held at the Dayton National Cemetery (date & time TBA) In lieu of flowers please make donations at any W.P.C.U. to The Rick Evans Music Scholarship Fund.

Thoughts and prayers are with the family. Rick welcomed us with open arms when we moved across the street from him 8 years ago. My teenage son adored him and would often help him with little things he needed done around the house. RIP Rick....your advise and waves will be missed.

Rick had lived a fun filled life. He was my buddy when I didn't have anyone else at times. I will truly miss hearing him calling me "Gewrl" instead of girl. I will also miss him embarrassing me by singing to me at gigs and having everyone look at me. I knew him as a great man who would always give experienced advice about things and from a perspective no one else could give. I love Old Man!
