ROGER MCAFEE Obituary
Roger Arron McAfee, age 67, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away on September 27, 2022. Roger was born March 8, 1955, to the late Roger and Beverly McAfee. In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his son, Roger B. McAfee and two grandchildren: Peytin Emmalin and Collin Griffin. Roger is survived by his children: Shawnda McAfee, Erin Griffin, Travis McAfee, and Kyler McAfee; sisters: Melanie (Dean) Meade and Nickilynn Evans; brother by heart, Gary Buck; grandchildren: Austin, Kierstin, Coltin, Ally, Drew, Travis, Dakota, Roger, and Waylon; nieces and nephew: Shannon, Lisa, Lorra, and Josh; childhood sweetheart and mother of his children: Linda Sue McAfee; and many other family and friends. Roger spent his career as a machinist and a dedicated Cleveland Browns fan. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was always there for his family and friends no matter what. He will be missed dearly by all those who loved him. A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022, from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton. Funeral services will be held immediately following at 1:00pm.

In 1972, Rodger McAfee, a dairy farmer from Caruthers, California, made a significant contribution to the civil rights movement by posting bail for Angela Davis, a prominent activist and member of the Black Panther Party. Davis had been charged with aiding a courtroom escape and was held on a $102,500 bond. McAfee offered his farm as collateral to secure her release.
McAfee´s decision to support Davis was rooted in his commitment to justice and equality. By risking his personal assets, he demonstrated solidarity with marginalized communities and underscored the importance of standing against systemic oppression.
Beyond this act, McAfee continued to engage in initiatives aimed at promoting equality. In 1981, he was involved in a project designed to assist families in acquiring land, reflecting his dedication to economic empowerment for underserved populations.
McAfee´s actions contributed to the broader movement for social justice by highlighting the role of individual responsibility in challenging systemic inequalities. His willingness to support Angela Davis during a critical moment not only facilitated her continued activism but also inspired others to take bold steps in the pursuit of equality.
