Andrews, Sr., Russell E. "Russ"
Russell E. "Russ" Andrews, Sr., 85, of Beavercreek, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, at Hospice of Dayton. Born on April 18, 1940, in Springfield, Russ lived a life marked by devotion-to his country, his work, his faith, and, most of all, his family. After graduating from Springfield High School in 1958, Russ proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard. His strong work ethic shone through his career at Industrial Grinding in Dayton, where he dedicated 30 years before retiring. Not one to sit still, he found joy in a second career at Walmart, where he helped establish the Tuttle Road store and worked in the sporting goods department for 11 years. Russ's faith was a cornerstone of his life. As a longtime leading elder and Corps Sergeant Major, he was a pillar of the Springfield Salvation Army Church. His gift for prayer touched many lives, and he continued to share this gift after being baptized at First Christian Church in Springfield. A true outdoorsman, he found peace and happiness while fishing and golfing. He was also an avid fan of both the Cincinnati Bengals and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Russ had a great love for all genres of music, especially 50s, Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley, The Black Eyed Peas, Alicia Keys, Alan Jackson, and Gospel music. He also loved to sing karaoke with friends and family. Russ's legacy is carried on by his loving family: his two children, Rev. Russell E. Andrews, Jr. (Danny Frost) and Catherine A. "Cathy" Science (Kendel Science, Jr.). He was a cherished grandfather to Kendel L. (Heather) Science III, Dortha V. "Dottie" (Kyle) Richards, and Elizabeth S. "Beth" (Kyle) Gambill, and a proud great-grandfather to Aiden, Mason, Connor, Grayson, Jackson, and Evie. He is also survived by his brother, Richard "Rich" Board, his special love, Diana Van Dette Jenkins, and many nieces and nephews. He was reunited in death with his beloved wife, Beverly S. (Parkin) Andrews, who passed on March 11, 2016. He also joins his mother and stepfather, Esphy Viola (Duffey) Fraley and Elmer E. Board, three brothers, and one sister. A true dog lover, Russ was preceded in death by his loyal companions Bailey, Cali, Balto, and Shiloh. He leaves behind his current furry friends: Zoie, Brutus, Peanut, and Turbo. Friends and family are invited to honor Russ's life during a visitation on Sunday, September 7, from 2–5 p.m. at the Jones-Kenney-Zechman Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 10:00 a.m. with his son officiating. Burial will follow at Fletcher Chapel Cemetery. Condolences may be shared online at
