Thomas John

Age 79, of Beavercreek, OH, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Margaret Sorauf, parents John and Adelaide Sorauf, brothers Donald Sorauf and John

Gerald Sorauf and a sister Jeanne Kirlin. He is survived by his children Thomas Sorauf Jr., Edward (Susie) Sorauf and Kathleen (Michael) Kroeger, grandchildren James Sorauf,

Jarred Sorauf, Michael Sorauf, Emily (Devan) Slaybaugh,

Angelica Sorauf, Nicholas Sorauf, Freya Kroeger and Beorn Kroeger and great-grandson Atlan Slaybaugh and his dog Sprout. He was a graduate of St. Catherine's High School in Racine Wisconsin and completed medical school at Marquette University in Wisconsin in 1967. He was a co-owner of South Dayton Pediatrics beginning in 1972 and retired from daily practice in 2017. He was devoted to caring for children with learning and developmental disabilities for many generations. He was dedicated to child safety and was an advocate for

automotive and bicycle safety legislation since the 1970's.

During his professional tenure as a pediatrician he was Chief of Pediatrics at W.P.A.F.B., then as a Medical Director and Chief of Pediatrics at Kettering Medical Center. He was at the forefront of neonatal care initiating many new practices that later became standard of care. At Kettering Medical Center, he served on three nursery renovations including the design of the Level III neonatal intensive care unit. He was a clinical faculty member at Wright State University and Ohio University where he spent decades mentoring and teaching medical

students. He was a member of the Western Ohio Pediatric

Society. He received the Alan D. Shafer Distinguished Service Award from Dayton Children's Hospital. He volunteered many hours at the Reach Out Clinic, formerly known as The

Sunshine Clinic. He had numerous publications including the case of Robinow-Sorauf Syndrome. He was known to many community OB & Pediatric professionals for his wonderful continuing education presentations; he was a gifted speaker and loved to research new ideas. His passions beyond

medicine included watching wildlife and animals. A lover of trains, he built extensive model layouts and was a member of the National Model Railroad Association. He also extensively researched and documented genealogy and family ancestry. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at 11:00 AM, at St. Helen Parish, 5100 Burkhardt Rd, Riverside, OH 45431.
