Carol,
My heart goes out to you and your family.
Words cannot express the sadness that I feel for you. One thing that stands out in my mind about Tony was his sense of humor and how he could always make us laugh. My deepest sympathy to you and your family.

Carol, Zane & Amber,
I've known Tony since 1991 when we met in our training class at The Equitable. We had many great times in business and at the golf outings with Tony, Ken Volkman, Eric Ford and Myself. We'll never forget the mulligans, Tony's world famous divots and the slice that was always "interesting". We will miss him and his sense of humor. All of our sympathy and love go your way. Tony and you all will be in our prayers.
Sincerely,
John and Janet (Feirstine) Richards

Dear Carol, Zane and Amber,
Tony will be missed in so many ways it is hard to even start listing them, as y'all know. He was a great man and a wonderful father to his kids as well as a wonderful father figure for Bret. He was there for all in good times and bad.

I was very saddened to hear about Tony. I remember so many great times with the Fesslers and the rest of our 'gang' from Troy Church of the Brethren, including many taffy pulls at our house. It was a great group to grow up with, and Tony was a big part of that. My heart goes out to your family.

Dear Carol, Zane & Amber,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We have always had such tremendous affection for Tony. He could make a person laugh no matter what was going on. We have enjoyed the times we spent together and consider his death a truly devastating loss. We can only take comfort in the fact that we know what a wonderful angel you will have on your shoulders. In fact, if I know Tony, he's looking out for us all. Please let us know if you need anything.
Love,

I met Tony through Pleasant Hill Boy Scouts of America, Troop 146. His son Zane was in the troop at the same time as my oldest son Joseph.
We Scout dads thoroughly enjoyed knowing Tony, having him at camps, and interacting with him at Scout meetings. Always smiling, he had a lot of great stories to tell. We shared a lot of views politically and otherwise. His were the first political signs I have put in my own yard in quite a few years, because I knew Tony and had a great deal of respect for him. He wasn't just another politician, that's for sure. In my view, he fit into the "statesman" definition--someone who was for the best interests of others instead of their own political career.
One year at Scout camp, it was Tony who inspired several of our young men to do all that they needed to do in order to attain "Honor Camper" awards--something that takes some work. None of us could have done this the way Tony did. he was simply exceptional.
He will be sorely missed.
The Cheatwood family, as well as the dads of current and former Troop 146 young men, extend our condolences with all sincerity.
God bless,
Mark Cheatwood
