News Death Notice

SPRAY, Wayne M. (Lt. Colonel USAF Ret.) passed away on July 9, 2010 at the age of 92. Wayne was on active duty before World War II and served in both Korea and Vietnam before retiring with 30 years of service. He was a graduate of Allegheny College (Alpha Chi Rho), the University of Pittsburgh, and the University of Tennessee. He was retired from the staff of Wright State University. A long-time Beavercreek resident, he was an active member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church and former president of the Beavercreek Rotary, the Greene County Historical Society, the Dayton Sons of the American Revolution chapter and the Beavercreek High School Band Parents. He also represented Beavercreek as a board member of the Greene Metropolitan Housing Authority. He was the son of the Hon. Lester and Gertrude Spray of Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, where he was an Eagle Scout and had Vigil Honor. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elizabeth Buttermore Spray; brother, Dr. Paul Spray of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; son, Elwin Spray (Ivy), daughter, Elaine Spray (Gary Embler) of Taos, New Mexico, and son, Carl Spray of Colorado Springs, Colorado; granddaughters, Jennifer and Elizabeth Spray and Katherine and Rebecca Embler; and was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Spray of Cincinnati. A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday, July 19, 2010, at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 350 N. Fairfield Road, Beavercreek, with visitation from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Park Cemetery.
