Donald Lee Samuelson was born February 15, 1954, at Denison, IA, the son of Donald and Rosetta (Becker) Samuelson. He passed away Monday, December 11, 2017, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 63.
Donald received his education in the Dow City, IA, schools and graduated from Dow City High School with the class of 1972. He furthered his education by taking electronics courses at Iowa Western Community College.
Donald was united in marriage to Reva Briggs May 4, 1974, at Denison. He was employed in maintenance at Farmland for 17 years and then was an over-the-road truck driver for 15 years, and did other odd jobs as well.
Donnie was baptized in 2005 as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He had a deep love of God and enjoyed talking to others about the Bible and God's promises for the very near future. With his declining health, he especially put faith in Christ Jesus and His promise of a resurrection.
In his leisure time, Donnie enjoyed playing his guitar, repairing and rebuilding guitars as well as tinkering around with old John Deere tractors, owning several through the years. He enjoyed socializing and was fond of his brothers and sisters at the Kingdom Hall and appreciated visits from them. Donnie's other interests included riding horses, watching western movies and football – especially the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Chiefs and Steelers. He also enjoyed the companionship of his dog, Rocky, who was his little buddy and co-pilot in the semi.
Donnie was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Debra Neumann.
Survivors include one son, Joshua Samuelson and his wife, Angela, of Zearing, IA; one daughter, Jenny Bothwell and her husband, Kent, of United Arab Emirates; four grandchildren, Markus and Kloye Bosthwell, and Tabitha and Liliana Samuelson; one sister, Cindy Wendt, of Denison; one brother-in-law, Richard Neumann, of Sac City, IA; two uncles, Jim Samuelson, of Dow City, and Richard Samuelson, of Council Bluffs, IA; two aunts, Judy Christensen and her husband, Kenny, of Dow City, and Jan Mathison and her husband, Gerald, of Woodbine, IA; two nephews, Kevin and David; four nieces, Misty, Andrea, Jamie and Ginny; and other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison with Bruce Cordero officiating the service. Music selections included recordings of "God's Promise of Paradise" and "He Will Call." Serving as honorary pallbearers were Tabitha Samuelson, Liliana Samuelson, Markus Bothwell and Kloye Bothwell. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
