Duane Donald "Fred" Hidding was born August 1, 1932, at Elma, Iowa, the son of Virgil and Adeline Hidding.
He passed away Friday, March 10, 2017, at Perry Lutheran Home in Perry, Iowa, at the age of eighty-four.
Duane was baptized in Christ at the Catholic church and received his education in the Elma and Thornton schools.
He then began his career as a truck driver driving for local farmers and then subsequently went to work for Farmland Foods, where he drove truck until an accident resulted in his retirement in the 1980's.
On December 4, 1981, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Branscomb at Denison, Iowa. Fred enjoyed gambling, camping and fishing, especially taking camping trips to various parks in Minnesota and Missouri and fishing trips to Canada with friends.
He enjoyed gardening especially tomatoes, potatoes and strawberries as well as other produce.
He enjoyed socializing with friends in particular going to Waderichs to keep updated on events. Football, basketball and the Iowa Hawkeyes were favorites of his.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Virginia; two stepsons, Jackie and Bobbie; and one sister, Dorothy and her husband, Wayne. Survivors include: one daughter, Toni and her husband, Scott; one step-daughter, Wanda and her husband, John; two step-sons, LeRoy and his wife, Lynn; Dale and his wife, Cindy; three grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; fifteen step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; and one sister, Marlene; other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were held 10 AM, Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa. Dennis Huebner officiated the service and graveside rites held at the Dow City Cemetery in Dow City, Iowa.
Music selections included recordings of "Grandpa" by the Judds and "The Old Rugged Cross" by Alan Jackson. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Fred's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Wesley Cunningham, Cade Cunningham, Domanick Watson, Andy Williams, Abe Mallicoat and Josh Cue. Military Honors were members of the American Legion Post 444 of Dow City, Iowa.
The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
