Norma Bjorkgren

Norma Bjorkgren October 25, 1924 - December 14, 2019 Norma Jeannette, daughter of Ralph and Lillian (Osterlund) Pieper, was born October 25, 1924, at Vail, Iowa. She grew up in Vail and graduated from Vail High School in 1941. Norma was united in marriage with Paul Bjorkgren on February 8, 1946, in Vail, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Victoria, Keith, and Bradley. Norma followed Paul wherever he taught and served as superintendent. They lived at Cedar Falls, Underwood, Charter Oak, and Alta before settling in Manning where he served as Superintendent for 16 years. The couple lived in Manning for 44 years before moving to Denison, Iowa in April of 2015. Paul passed away shortly thereafter and Norma returned to their home in Manning for a year before moving into what is now Manning Senior Living. Norma was a member of the United Methodist Church of Manning and the United Methodist Women. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, golf, playing cards, attending sporting events, and spending time with her grandchildren. On Saturday, December 14, 2019, Norma passed away at Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, Iowa. She was 95 years of age. Preceding Norma in death are her parents; husband Paul Bjorkgren; son-in-law Bob Price; brothers: Ralph (Verna) Pieper, Roy (Leota) Pieper, Charles Pieper and Lloyd Pieper: sister Maxine (Edwin) Magill; brothers-in-law Robert (Lois) Bjorkgren and Arthur (Maryanna) Bjorkgren; and a sister-in-law Marie (Bill) Martin. She is survived by three children: Victoria (Steve) Shaw of Edgar, NE; Keith (Pat) Bjorkgren of Lakeside, IA and Brad (Michele) Bjorkgren of Norwalk, IA; grandchildren Brent (Sondra) Price, Brittany (Troy) Sidders, Nathan (Heidi) Bjorkgren, Brian (Ashley) Bjorkgren, Beth Bjorkgren and fiancé Seth Rachuy, Jacob Bjorkgren and fiancée Mandy Ridgway, and Benjamin Bjorkgren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Esther Pieper of Vail, IA; and Barbara Pieper of Chico, CA; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
