Vicki J. Truitt was born in Denison, Iowa, November 11, 1950, the daughter of Victor and Lois Houston Steinkuehler. She was raised in Denison where she received her education.
Vicki was married to Stanley Truitt and their union was blessed with three children: Brian, Stacey and Katie.
She was employed at Dubuque Pack and Farmland in Denison and, after moving to Dow City, ran the Highway Café for one year. She then was a homemaker in Dow City where she raised her family.
Vicki was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dow City where she had served as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister and was a CCD teacher.
In her leisure time she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, family dinners, playing cards and cruising with Bill.
Surrounded by her loving family, Vicki died Thursday evening, July 3, 2014, at her home in Dow City. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 63 years, 7 months and 4 days.
Including her parents, Victor and Lois Steinkuehler, Vicki was also preceded in death by two brothers: Leonard and Timothy Steinkuehler; and one sister, Tina Thomsen.
Those remaining to cherish her memory include her life partner, Bill Segebart of Dow City, Iowa; three children: Brian Truitt of Dow City, Iowa; Stacey and husband Tim Garrigus of Bellevue, Nebraska; and Katie and husband Bret Malone of Dow City, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Conner Truitt, Nicholas Walker, Dawson Truitt, Sharlene Garrigus, Cade Cunningham, Logan Truitt and Cheznie Malone; two brothers: Jack Steinkuehler and Colleen of Denison, Iowa; and Randy Steinkuehler and Becky of Kansas City, Missouri; one sister Tammie DeLong and Steve of Branson, Missouri; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dow City, Iowa, with Father Paul Kelly as Celebrant. Others participating in the mass included Servers: Connor and Colin Garrett; Lector: Andi Sharp; Gift Bearers: the Grandchldren; and Eucharistic Ministers: Jane Freund and Shari Hast. Music for the mass was provided by soloist Mandi Sandvold singing "Here I Am Lord", "On Eagle's Wings", "You Are Mine" and "Be Not Afraid" with EveVonne Muff as accompanist. Honorary Pallbearers were Vicki's grandchildren: Connor Truitt, Nicholas Walker, Dawson Truitt, Sharlene Garrigus, Cade Cunningham, Logan Truitt and Cheznie Malone. Those serving as pallbearers included Matthew Steinkuehler, Brett Steinkuehler, Michael DeLong, Megan Beam, Corey Malone, Richie Malone, Jamie Steinkuehler, Nathan Friedrichsen and Chad Steinkuehler. Interment was at the Dow City Cemetery, Dow City, Iowa. Following the graveside rites everyone was invited to the Dow City Community Building to join the family for fellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by the St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home, www.pfannebecker.com, Denison, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements where a visitation was held on Monday, July 7, 2014, with a Rosary prayed at 3:30 p.m. and a Parish Vigil Service held at 7:00 p.m.
