Eugene "Gene" C Mailand

1933 - 2024

Eugene C. "Gene" Mailand, 91, of Decatur, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Parkview Randallia Hospital, in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

He was born on June 16, 1933, at home in Allen County to the late Herman and Christine (Reiter) Mailand. Gene was united in marriage to Shirley Hockemeyer on November 11, 1956, at St. John Lutheran Church Flatrock, and she survives.

Gene was a member of St. John Lutheran Church Bingen, where he served his Lord in many memberships and offices, including the Wyneken Lutheran School. His pride and joy was singing, which included the Men's Chorus in Florida, Decatur Circuit Lutheran Choral and also St. John Bingen Church choir.

Gene was a lifelong farmer.

Gene enjoyed woodworking, golfing, horseshoe, and playing Euchre.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Mailand of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Luanne (Dan) Buchan of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Gwen (Dennis) Bura of Peachtree City, Georgia; son, Mitch (Sherri) Mailand of Hoagland, Indiana; daughter, Kayleen (William) Huffman of Fort Wayne, Indiana; daughter, Rhonda (Larry) Conrad of Monroeville, Indiana; daughter, Carla (Roger) Lantz of Spencerville, Indiana; daughter, Myra (Chris) Evans of Fort Wayne, Indiana; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren;
brother-in-law, Don Konow of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and sister-in-law, Charlotte Hockemeyer of Hoagland, Indiana.

Gene was preceded in death by one brother, Wilmer "Bud" Mailand; three sisters, Gertrude "Gert" Young, Dorothy Konow, and Anita Stock; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 24, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Church – Bingen with Pastor Peter Brock officiating. Burial will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery Bingen.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 23, 2024, from 12 noon to 4:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church – Bingen, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, also at the church.

Preferred memorials can be given to St. John Lutheran Church – Bingen parking lot fund or Worship Anew.
