Florence Nower

1924 - 2017

Florence Nower, 92, St. Louis, Mo., passed away Jan. 1, 2017, at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur. She was born in St. Louis Aug. 5, 1924, to the late Joseph Randazzo and Margaret (Alongi) Randazzo.
She graduated from Central High School in St. Louis. Following her graduation, she was employed at International Paper as a secretary. She then continued to work as a secretary at the Bank of St. Louis. It was at this time that she met her husband, Donald Nower, in the original St. Louis Opera Company where they both were performers. They were married Thanksgiving Day in 1954, and were married 56 years until Donald's death in 2009.
She was a wonderful and much loved mother, who taught her children that Christian values, hard work and perseverance were the most important things in life.
Mrs. Nower worked two jobs, as a secretary for Monsanto Chemical Company and receptionist for Missouri Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, both in St. Louis. After her retirement at 78, she focused on her grandchildren, whom she adored.
Florence was a member of the St. Clement of Rome-Des Peres Catholic Church in St. Louis, the Rubenstein Music Club, and the original St. Louis Opera Company.
Among survivors are a son, Joseph (Julie) Nower of Decatur; daughter, Lia Nower of St. Louis; and six grandchildren, Amelia Nower, Parker Nower, Riley Nower, Grace Nower, Samantha Nower and Shelby Nower.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Rosalie Randazzo.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Clement of Rome-Des Peres Catholic Church in St. Louis. Following the Mass, Florence will be entombed next to her husband at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in St. Louis.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass at the church Saturday.
Preferred memorials for Florence will be for Masses.
