Ronald Standiford Obituary

Ronald W. Standiford, 85, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2025 at Heritage Park Nursing Home.

He was born on September 9, 1939 in Allen County, Indiana to the late Harold D. and Ida S. (Seddlemeyer) Standiford.

Ron was veteran in the Army National Guard where he served for 6 years, being honorably discharged after attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was called to active duty in 1962 before being released later that same year.

Ron was united in marriage to Thelma A. (Weismiller) Standiford on January 27, 1962 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Bingen, and she preceded him in death on April 24, 2025.

Ron was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. While his wife Thelma was involved as a teacher at Wyneken Memorial Lutheran School, they were a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen.

Ron was a graduate of Concordia Lutheran High School. Following his time in the Army National Guard, he was employed with Navistar where he retired after 38.9 years of service.

Ron and Thelma both loved camping and traveling. The family spent quality time camping at West Otter Lake. They also spent a great deal of time traveling and camping throughout the United States whenever they had the opportunity. Upon their retirement, it was not unusual for them to leave for months before returning and being able to tell their family of the many locations they had visited.

Survivors include his son, Gary W. (Lisa) Standiford of Fort Wayne, Indiana; granddaughter, Kristin (fiancé Ben Lowe) Standiford of Hammond, Indiana; sister, Shirley (Dennis) Kazmiersak of Loudon, Tennessee; sister, Linda (Thomas) Heath of Estero, Florida; brother, Paul (Beth) Standiford of St. Peters, Missouri; and sister-In-law, Linda Weismiller of Tipton, Indiana.

Along with his parents, Ron was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Paul F. and Harold Weismiller; and sister-in-law, Violet (Dale) Hensley.

A funeral service for Ron will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church, 4245 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, with Pastor Doug Croucher officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Park Cemetery, Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

Military graveside honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #43, Decatur.

Family and friends will be received from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, 2025 at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur and from 9:30 – 10:15 a.m. on Monday prior to the service at the church.

Preferred memorials can be given to Wyneken Lutheran School or Concordia Lutheran Church.
