Braden SHOUPE Obituary

Braden S. "Pop" Shoupe Age 77 of Smyrna, DE died Monday, October 1, 2001 in the Norwalk Hospital in Norwalk, CT. Braden was born in Tarentum, PA to the late Richard A. and Ruth Shaner Shoupe, and graduated from Allegheny Township (PA) High School in 1940. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. After his military service, he graduated from Indiana (PA) State Teachers College. Mr. Shoupe taught for many years, in Midland, PA and at the George Read Junior High School in New Castle, DE before moving to Smyrna, DE in 1968. He taught history at Smyrna High School and coached the athletic program for many years, retiring in 1985. Mr. Shoupe was a member of the Stahl American Legion Post #30 in New Castle, DE, and of 40 and 8, a veterans' organization. He also volunteered for the Smyrna-Clayton Little League for a number of years. He was a Civil War enthusiast and enjoyed traveling to battlefields and historical sites throughout the country. His wife of 51 years, Yvonne J. Shoupe, died in 1999. A son, Richard Melvin Shoupe, died in 1959. He is survived by 2 sons, Dr. Braden Alan Shoupe, a Lt. Col. in the U.S. Army Medical Corps In Honolulu, HI, Harold S. Shoupe of Smyrna, DE; and 3 daughters, Rebecca Ann Ridgeway of Smyrna, Mary Alice Morton of Norwalk, CT and Yvonne A. Adkins of Wake Forest, NC. His brother, Frank R. Shoupe of Leechburg, PA; and 16 grandchildren, including Michael E. Shoupe, whom he helped to raise during the early years of his life, also survive. A service will be held 11 am Saturday, October 6 at the MATTHEWS-BRYSON FUNER-AL HOME, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call 7-9 pm Friday, October 5. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent the o St. Andrews Lutheran Church Summer Mission Project, 425 N. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901.
