Tomlinson, Sr.
Age 94, of West Chester, died peacefully Sunday at Park Lane/Bellingham, surrounded by family.
Born in West Chester, he was the son of the late Mae E. Tomlinson and Charles E. Tomlinson. He lived in the borough for 90 years, prior to moving to West Goshen Twp., then East Goshen. He was the widower of Kathryn M. Tomlinson, with whom he had shared 53 happy years of marriage.
Working in his younger days prior to WW II at venerable West Chester businesses like West Chester Laundry and Eachus Dairies, he also worked at Westinghouse before joining the Navy. He spent four years in the Navy during the war, serving primarily on a destroyer escort ship. After the war, Charles went to work for his father-in-law at Madeira's Station-ery/Typewriter Service Bureau, working in the retail store and selling and repairing business equipment. He later managed the business. In 1959, he joined Russell Jacoby Tax Collector, later buying into it as a partner with three colleagues. He retired from the firm as sole owner, by then called Montgomery & Tomlinson. In his retirement, he worked as a courier for the First National Bank of Chester County. Charles was a member of many fraternal and civic organizations including BPOE #853 (a former PER and "Elk of the Year"), F&AM #322, Tall Cedars Forrest #22, IOOF, American Legion, and Reading Consistory. He was also a life-long member of the United Methodist Church of West Chester.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by three brothers; Elwyn, Jack, and Harry; a sister, Helen Slider; and a grandson, Alan.
Charles is survived by his son, Charles, Jr., daughter-in-law Carol; granddaughter Christie Moretti (husband Michael); sister Barbara Peterson, along with many loving nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Memorial Service 10:30 am Saturday January 30, 2010 at the DELLAVECCHIA, REILLY, SMITH & BOYD FUNERAL HOME, INC. 410 N.
