Daniel Gawiak Obituary

Died suddenly on November 24, 2010.
Dan was born in New York City to Peter and Jean Gawiak. He was educated in New York City, graduating from Stuyvesant High School and earning a Bachelor's degree from Queens College. He also did some graduate work at Yeshiva and New York Universities.
Dan pursued a career in chemistry and worked most recently at Baxter Healthcare for almost eleven years. Dan applied his intelligence and talents to his hobbies as well. He was a tropical fish enthusiast, grew orchids and was on the board of the Delaware Orchid Society. He enjoyed gardening, growing plants of all types, music and singing in the choir at Presbyterian Church of the Covenant. He was also devoted to his two dogs, Duffy and Tuppence.
Dan will be missed by his wife of 31 years, Vicki, who could not have had a finer or more loving husband; his sister, Diane Oates, her husband, Richard, and his two nephews, Bryan and Russell, and by many friends and colleagues. To his nephews, Dan was a "wonderful uncle and a great host" to them when they visited. Dan's sister praised his generosity and said he was" the best brother anyone could have. " Dan was highly regarded and liked by his colleagues.
One of his friends summed up Dan's fine qualities by saying that he was a" wonderful man."
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 30, at 11 am, at the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, 503 Duncan Road, Wilmington, DE 19810. Friends may visit with the family on Monday afternoon, November 29th from 2-4 pm and again from 7-9 pm at the CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, Concord Pike and Sharpley Roads.
Memorial donations may be made to Presbyterian Church of the Covenant.

Vicki and Family,

I always enjoyed visiting your family on our summer vacations to the north as a child. I considered Dan and Vicki part of our family as I know my Dad (Bob Dragner) always enjoyed spending quality time with his dear friend Dan. Dan will truly be missed by all.

My Dad and Dan took me to my first professional baseball game back in 1989 to see the Mets play the Reds, and I will never forget that experience.

Vicki and family, my deepest condolences for your loss. Dan was one of the most genuinely nice people I've had the pleasure of knowing. I knew Dan from Baxter where he was always ready to lend a hand when needed. He was also my fish tank buddy at the office. He will be missed.

Dan was a very nice man who had a smile for everybody. I remember walking by him in the hallways at Baxter and how I was always greeted with a smile and a hi. He will be sorely missed. My deepest condolence to his wife Vicki and his entire family.

I only knew Dan for a couple of years and worked in tech services with him for 4 months. He trained me in a few things at cherry hill. Even though I didn't know him long, he was such a ray of sunlight. He was always smiling and very nice. I saw him a few times in the Chemistry lab and he would smile at everyone he passed by. I'm so sorry for your loss. He will be missed very much. Take care and God Bless.

Vicki, I am deeply sorry for your loss of Dan. For 20 years Dan has been my co-worker and dear friend; he was a good man, caring, considerate and sincere. His encouragement resulted in my now 10-year job at Baxter, following our 10 years in Pennsville. I'll miss his warm smile, pleasant personality and the fun times we had together.

I wish to express my sympathy for your loss of Dan. I worked with Dan for many years in Cherry Hill. His joining the Technical Services group was a great blessing for us. I really liked the fact that there was another guy my age in the department that was willing to work hard and had the courage to wear a purple shirt once in a while. Be assured that Dan was really well appreciated as a co-worker. I was constantly impressed how he was able to work hard and solve the difficult problems. He will be missed by many of us.

I met Dan when he worked at Gaines Chemicals and was a colleague of my mother. I had a summer job there and a temp job the following year and was always delighted to cross Dan's path. He always wore a smile when he could. Several years later, my path intersected Dan's again at Wyeth in Cherry Hill, NJ (now Baxter) and I was fortunate enough to be interviewed by him (and later, hired). Dan was my manager for a time and was always very nice to me. Even when he wasn't my boss, he treated me (and everyone) in a fair and friendly manner. He was too young to leave us!! and will be lovingly remembered. <3, Louise Slamp (Saltenberger)

Dear Vicki,
When Pastor Doug told us this morning of Dan's passing, I was so saddened. I just want you to know how very sorry I am, and that you're in my prayers.
Sincerely,
Nancy Wilt
