Mealey, Jr.
Dan Mealey, age 61, co-founder and retired Chairman/CEO of Aloysius, Butler & Clark, Inc. located in Wilmington, DE, died on Sunday, June 12, 2005, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Wilmington, DE, the son of late Mary G. (Donahoe) Sharp and the late Daniel Aloysius Mealey. Mr. Mealey was a graduate of Salesianum High School and the University of Delaware. In 1970, Mr. Mealey co-founded Aloysius, Butler & Clark, Inc. and was the company's Chairman/CEO until his retirement in 1991. During his career, he served on numerous boards and committees including Sanford School, Ursuline Academy, Boy Scouts of America DelMarva Council, Central Branch YMCA, Catholic Diocese of Wilmington and The Oblates of St. Francis de Sales Retirement Committee. He also served as chairman of the American Association of Advertising Agencies, Philadelphia, PA Council in the mid-1980s. Mr. Mealey was an avid tennis player and a "lousy" golfer. In the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s he could be found almost daily in the early morning at Rodney Street Tennis Courts in Wilmington, along with his buddies. He sense of humor and wit will be remembered.
Mr. Mealey is survived by his wife, Gail Mallette Mealey; daughters, Shannon Mealey of Irvine, CA and Cameron Mealey at home; his sister, Susan Mealey Vilone of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; numerous nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog, "Mollie".
The family would like to thank Laurie, Alice and Kathy at the Helen Graham Center; Peaches and Joan at Christiana Care; Birdie, Tina and Beth at Delaware Hospice; and all those who worked tirelessly to make Dan's last months comfortable.
A memorial service will be held on 1:30 pm on Saturday, June 18th, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 4701 Weldin Road, Wilmington, DE where friends may call after 1 pm. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Mealey's memorial to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN, 38101; or to Delaware Hospice, Inc., 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810; or to Special Needs Fund, c/o Helen Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713.
