Mr. Gould was born on March 21, 1943, in Akron, OH. He was the son of J. Charles Gould and Irene A. Gould. He grew up in Stow, Ohio and Riverton, NJ. In 1965, he graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. While attending college, he worked as a research assistant at the Chemical Engineering Laboratory. In 1965 he entered Rutgers University School of Law and during the summers of 1966 and 1967 worked as a patent associate at Dow Chemical Company and as an associate at the Archer Greiner law firm in Camden, NJ. He graduated in 1968 with a J.D. degree. After graduation from law school, he became employed by the DuPont Legal Department. His career spanned 36 years, and he thoroughly enjoyed the interesting, varied, and challenging work at DuPont. Some of his major accomplishments include procuring a number of important patents; resolving several significant patent infringement matters; having major responsibility for energy laws and regulations; serving as lead counsel for establishing many significant procurement contracts and joint ventures; and winning a significant hydro-power lawsuit, which resulted in DuPont building a $100 million plant at Niagara Falls, NY. He retired from DuPont in 2004. Mr. Gould was a member of the D.C. Bar; the U.S. Patent and Trademark Bar; the Intellectual Property Owners Association; the American Intellectual Property Law Association; and the International Trademark Association, where he served on its Board of Directors. He also served as President and Board member for the Rockledge Community Association where the family has a vacation home in the Poconos. He met his wife Jo Ann while he was in law school and she was in undergraduate school at Rutgers. They married in 1973 and resided most of their years together in Alapocas. She taught second grade at Wilmington Friends School and is now retired. She was the love of his life and the mother of their son, John T. Gould. He is an honors graduate of Wilmington Friends School, Yale University, and University of Pennsylvania Law School; currently, he is an Associate at the law firm of Arnold and Porter, Washington, D.C. Vacationing at their cottage on Lake Wallenpaupack in the Poconos, boating, fishing, hunting, skiing, hiking, photography, travel, and Broadway theatre were some of his varied hobbies and interests. He was a loving husband and father, as well as a true professional, who strove for excellence in all he did. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and associates.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann S. Gould; his son, John T. Gould and his wife, Caroline of Washington, DC; his brother, Wayne C. Gould and his wife, Lee of Sedona, AZ; and his brother, James W. Gould and his wife, Jan of Purdys, NY.
