I fondly remember Mrs. Fahey always well dressed and in her high heels, even to run to the cleaners or the grocery store. What a lovely lady she was! I remember once when Maureen and I were playing in the front yard, I guess we were about 8 years old (it was while they lived here in Chattanooga), she ran outside and said "Maureen, you and Marie come over here and put these boxes on your head". For the life of me I couldn't understand why she'd want us to do that, but it sounded fun to me. She explained to us that a solar eclipse was about to happen and we needed to protect our eyes from the eclipse. She resourcefully had taken 2 boxes and cut a 4 inch square opening in each box and covered the opening with red cellophane so that we could put the box on our heads and look out the red cellophane hole and see our "first" eclipse without damaging our eyes. Now every time we hear of an eclipse I always think of Mrs. Fahey.
I also remember every time I walked into her house I could smell the various aromas of whatever she was cooking for lunch or dinner, and see her sitting in a chair looking up and smiling at me while she was knitting or cross stitching. If she wasn't cooking, or knitting, she was out in the yard tending to her flowers and/or shrubs. She had a remedy for anything that would ail you, and always made sure to have healthy meals for her family (which I'm sure is why she lived so long). All the while, "dressed to the nine's".
Maureen, Trish and Mike, I am sorry for your loss. Your mom lived a very long life, but I believe now, after all this time, she is in heaven with your dad, her true love.
