Emily Sousa Obituary
Ermelinda Sousa
Sister Emily (M. Ambrose) Ermelinda Sousa, a member of the Benedictine Sisters of Ridgely, Maryland, died peacefully on September 19, 2013. Sister Emily was born in Newark, New Jersey, to Manuel and Alice Sousa and entered the Benedictine Sisters in January, 1960. She was one of the first staff members and the first nurse at the Benedictine School. In the Diocese of Wilmington, Sister Emily taught elementary school at Saint Edmond's in Rehoboth Beach, DE, was a guidance counselor at Ursuline Academy, and a pastoral counselor at Catholic Charities. She was also a nurse and educator at the Terry Children's Psychiatric Center in New Castle, DE for many years.
She is survived by her Benedictine Sisters; her sister, Evelyn Sarica (Dominick) of Cranford, N.J.; nephew, Anthony Sarica of Cranford, N.J.; and niece, Jeannine Stoddart of Bethlehem, PA.
Services will be private with interment in Saint Gertrude Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Benedictine Sisters' Retirement Fund, 14259 Benedictine Lane, Ridgely, MD, 21660.
