Age 80 of Newport, DE, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2006.

Ernie retired from General Motors after 37½ years of service, prior to that he was a Millwright for the DuPont Co. He was a first class Seaman serving in the Navy during WWII on the USS Stoddard. Ernie was a member of St. Matthews Church and a member of the American Legion Post #28 in Millsboro. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening and boating.

Ernie was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Anna E. Kardos, in 1995; and by his son, Ernest S. Kardos, Jr., in 1975. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law with whom he had been living with the past 3 years, Deborah Ann A. Barrett and Rex Barrett of Millsboro, DE; grandchildren, Neil Chandler and Tracy Broomalll great grandchildren, Addison Chandler and Kenny Broomall; a step brother, Frank Kardos of NJ; and several nieces, nephews and other family members.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Saturday, August 5, at St. Matthews RC Church, Curtis and Maryland Aves., Woodcrest. Visitation will be from 9-9:30 am Saturday at NICHOLS-GILMORE FUNERAL HOME, 212 E. Justis St., Newport. Entombment will be in Cathedral Cemetery, Lancaster Ave.
