Everardo Martinez Obituary
Evie Martinez died on January 19, 2016 surrounded by his family in great love and gratitude for his life. While too short, Evie's life helped to point others to recognize the light and the good which surrounds us all.
To know Evie was to love him. He embraced life and sought to experience and enjoy everything possible. Evie was fiercely independent yet found his anchor in his love of family. His heart was golden. While Evie did not always choose the easy way he always did choose the path that honored his soul.
Evie loved the sea. The beach, fishing, sailing aboard the Kalmar Nyckel, all personified Evie's free and boundless spirit. He relished the outdoors and the creatures of this world.
Evie was a graduate of St. Anne's Ipiscopal School in Middletown and Christiana High School. He was currently enrolled at Delaware Technical and Community College where he was pursuing a degree in business. Evie played lacrosse for the Middletown Youth Lacrosse, and for 4 years at Christiana High School. In Evie's junior year he was honored to be named to the second Blue Hen All Conference team. While his love was lacrosse Evie was also a member of the Christiana High School wrestling and cross country teams. Evie was a long time member and acolyte at St. James Episcopal Church, Newport where he served with his beloved Uncle and sister.
Evie is survived by his parents Dawn and Juan Martinez, his sister Georgina "Georgi", his maternal grandparents, George and Janice Fischbach, his paternal grandmother, Maria Luisa Garcia Martinez, his aunt Mary Ellen Fischbach, his uncles Chris Fischbach, Octavio Martinez, Augustin Martinez, Jose Martinez and Miguel Martinez his aunts Mercedes Martinez, Maria Del Zocorro Martinez and numerous cousins.
Friends may call on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 from 5:30-8:00 p.m. at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808. A service will be held on Wednesday, January 27th at 4:30 p.m. at St. James Church, 2 S. Augustine Street, Newport, DE 19804. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation or to a scholarship fund which is being set up for the Middletown Youth Lacrosse.

I'm sorry doesn't even begin to convey the sadness I have for this loss. I know how much he was loved and adored by so many family and friends. I feel blessed that I was able to be a friend of Evie's for a few years at St. Anne's; it seems so long ago though. Throughout middle school, Evie and I became close because of our love for Hockey. We would talk and recap the Flyers games just about every morning before school. He was so kind and that kindness never left him. He truly was a remarkable person that could make anyone smile. Please know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry for your loss. I live very close to where Evie's life was taken and I am horrified that such a thing could happen in what used to be such a peaceful neighborhood. Please know that my prayers and thoughts have been with you constantly; our prayer group at St. Matthew's have offered up a rosary for Evie.
