Frances Atlas Stein

Wilmington - Age 91, passed away at home on Monday, July 26, 2021.

A native Wilmingtonian, she was an active member of the community. Frances was a past president of Congregation Beth Shalom, being the first woman to serve as president. She was also the first Executive Director of the synagogue, a position she held for 17 years.

Frances was a member of many organizations, including the Kutz Home and its Auxiliary, a life member of Hadassah, the Jewish Historical Society, Jewish Family Service, and many animal groups. She enjoyed her classes at Osher Academy of Lifelong Leaning, was an avid bridge player, and enjoyed singing.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Morris; parents, Harry and Anna Atlas; and sister, Phyllis Wilkens; she is survived by her daughter, Leslie May (Ken); son, Jeffrey (Valerie); twin granddaughters, Jacqueline and Samantha Stein.

Services were private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Congregation Beth Shalom, 1801 Baynard Boulevard, Wilmington, DE 19802.

To the Stein Family: My parents are Kitty and Ed Winner, long-time friends of Fran and Morris. What great friendships and fun times they had together. I am sorry for your loss and hope that your memories of your parents bring you joy and smiles. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers.
