Frank GLEESON Obituary

Frank J. Gleeson Mr. Frank J. Gleeson, age 87 of Middletown, DE, formerly of Penn Acres, died Saturday, April 10, 2004, at his home. Mr. Gleeson was born in Stamford, CT August 1, 1916, son of the late Michael J. and Arline (Langdale) Gleeson. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in the European Theatre and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in defense of his country. For 27 years, he was employed as a circulation representative with the News Journal Company before retiring in 1981. Mr. Gleeson also worked as a school bus driver for M&K Transportation, during which time he was responsible for the Ursuline Academy athletic team bus. He was a past union president of the Newspaper Guild, a member of Stahl Post, American Legion, and a former member of the New Castle Moose Lodge. In his leisure time, Mr. Gleeson enjoyed bowling, gardening, listening to country music, and swimming in the family pool. Most of all, he delighted in spending time with his friends and family, especially his beloved grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Myrtle R. (Rother) Gleeson; 5 children, Ronald J. Gleeson and his wife, Barbara, of Newark, Francis Gerald Gleeson of Severna, MD, Linda M. Greene and her husband, Michael, of Bear, Amy C. Clark and her husband, Billy, of New Castle and Priscilla A. Ashley and her husband, Reed, of Middletown, with whom he lived for the past 2 years; sister, Margaret Jones of New Castle; 9 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua Ashley. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, April 15, 2004, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where friends may call after 10 am. Interment will follow in Glebe Cemetery, New Castle. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 100 W. 10th St., Ste. 209, Wilmington, DE 19801.
