Frank Shields, Jr.

Wilmington - Frank Shields Jr. passed peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 91 years of age. He was born March 15th, 1927 along with his twin sister Charlotte to parents Frank and Catherine Shields in Philadelphia, PA.

Frank entered military service in 1945 at 18 years of age. He married the love of his life, Berdella J. Shearon and they raised three children.

Frank dedicated much of his life to rehabilitating troubled youth. He began working at Ferris School for Boys in Wilmington, DE in 1952. He later became the superintendent of Ferris School and continued his work until he retired in 1989.

Frank is predeceased by his wife, Berdella; parents, Frank Sr. and Catherine; and siblings Charlotte Tanner, Dolores Shaffer, Robert and Gerald Shields. He is survived by his children Frank Shields III (Maria), Judy Sullivan (Michael), and Wendy Ginocchio (Francis) as well as grandchildren Frank IV (Laurie) and Brett Shields (Kari), Shaun Sullivan (Adrienne), Colleen Still (John), Bryan Sullivan, Brilynn and Kelli Brothers. He leaves behind three great-grandchildren, Frank V, Graham and Stella Shields. Frank was an incredibly loving and devoted husband, brother, father, and grandfather. He will be dearly missed, and always loved and remembered.
