James Franks Obituary

James J. Franks, Sr.

AGE: 90 • Wilmington

James J. Franks, Sr., 90 of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 25, 2016 with his children by his side.

Jim was born in Wilmington, son of the late Peter and Marion (Weeks) Franks. He was a graduate of Wilmington High School, served honorably in the Army Air Corps during World War II and upon his discharge, enrolled in the Hussian School of Art in Philadelphia. Jim went on to enjoy a long career as a graphic artist and designer before his brief retirement in the mid 1980's. Jim missed the daily interaction with people and soon went back to work part-time for Fine Auto.

He was a member of the Lions Club and a devout parishioner of St. John the Beloved Church. In his younger adulthood, Jim enjoyed playing golf. Above all else, he cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his children, James J. Franks, Jr., and Kathy Moon; his grandchildren, Bryan Moon (Michelle August) and Lauren Moon (Greg Jones); and great-grandson, Jack Moon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores in 2009; his son-in-law, Clyde Moon in 2015; and his five siblings, Alice Shepherd, Marion Ingram, Elizabeth Garrahan, Violet Hamilton, and Nicholas Franks.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 5:00 - 7:00pm on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 10:30am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Jim's family suggests making contributions in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 240 N. James Street, Newport, DE 19804.
