Of Wilmington, DE, age 85, went home to meet his heavenly father on Saturday, the 19th of October.
He was the loving husband of Mary J. Mento Groome, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage. Born in Philadelphia, he was the beloved son of the late William and Katherine (Deasy) Groome. James was a proud member of the 110th Navy Seabees, having served on Tinian during WW II. He was formerly employed by the Downingtown Archives for 15 years and the News Journal in Wilmington, DE for 17 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Maryanne, James (Rosanna), Michael (Diane), Kevin (Wendy), Katherine (Jacque) Hanlon; and by his sisters, Mary Votel of Philadelphia and Sr. Kathleen Groome OSF of Maryland. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Joshua, Nicolette, Michael and Jacque. He was predeceased by his brothers, William, John, Joseph, Gerald and Frank; and by his granddaughter, Stephanie Marie Hanlon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 am, on Thursday, October 23, at St. Joseph Church, 338 Manor Ave, Downingtown. A visitation for family and friends will be held at the JAMES J. TERRY FUNERAL HOME, 736 E. Lancaster Ave, Downingtown on Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm and on Thursday morning from 9:30-10:30 am. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Downingtown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association, Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106; or to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.
