James A. Seydell

AGE: 81 • Lewes, formerly of Newark

James A. Seydell, 81, of Lewes, DE, formerly of Newark, passed away peacefully March 27, 2015 at Delaware Hospice in Milford, DE surrounded by his family.

Born in Newark on December 18, 1933, Jim was the son of the late Walter and Bella Atkinson Seydell.

Jim was born and raised in Newark, DE. He graduated from Newark High School and the Graduate School of Consumer Banking at the University of Virginia. Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. He worked for Wilmington Trust Company for 39 years starting as a teller and retiring as Vice President, Personal Finance in 1999. He was a proud life member of Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company. He was a NASCAR fan who fondly recalled driving laps at Dover Downs on his 70th birthday. He also enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, softball, and golf through the years. He was a member of the Blue Hen Touchdown Club and a season ticket holder for University of Delaware football and basketball. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be missed for his love, kindness, humor and dedication.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 52 years, Lynne Weber Seydell of Lewes; three sons, Jay M. Seydell and wife Leslie of Colora, MD, Gary M. Seydell and Greg T. Seydell, both of Newark; 3 grandchildren, J. Michael, Andrew and Elizabeth Seydell; and nephew James Seydell and his wife Connie of Wilmington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Walter and his sister-in-law Pearl.

The family would like to thank the staff at Delaware Hospice for their care and dedication and all of the neighbors and friends who offered their help during Jim's illness.

A celebration honoring Jim's life will be held at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main St., Newark, DE 19711 on Wednesday April 1, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6-8:00 pm or one hour prior to the service on Wednesday morning. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery in Wilmington, DE. Memorial contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice or the Lewy Body Foundation and mailed to the funeral home. Dear Lynne and family: sincere sympathy to you and the family. We remember the 17 years as neighbors in The Pines and how we enjoyed raising our sons together. Jim was so kind and a great dad. I am very sorry for your loss. I have so many fond memories of Mr Seydell from time spent at your house in the Pines growing up with Greg . He could always make us laugh and was quite a character. I will always remember seeing him (and Mrs Seydell) at the U of D football games, regardless of how cold it was. My deepest sympathies to you the Seydell family.

We are so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Jim was a great guy. If it wasn't for his help and encouragement many of us who worked for him would not have been as successful as we were. He had nick names for all of us but I think his favorite was Starsky and Hutch thats what he called me and Bill Hutchison. When I first started working for Jim I was a young kid and was scared to go in his office. I quickly learned he was a soft who would do anything he could to help you succeed and always gave you the benefit of his experience. Lynn I will never forget the last visit Joyce had with him shortly after his heart surgery. I think it was great for both of them. Everyone has somebody n there life who gives you that gentle but firm nudge to do more and to be as good as you can be. Jim was that guy to a lot of folks. I will miss him.
