James Vermeulen Obituary

James Vermeulen "Jim"

Age 53, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, January 24, 2012. Jim was born in Billing Montana, on August 5, 1958.

Jim served in the US Army from 1976 through 1983 specializing in Telecommunications. After leaving the armed services he received his technical education at Perry Institute in Yakima, Washington. Jim began his successful Telecommunications career in the Pacific Northwest, with US WEST Communications. In 1997, Jim moved east to Delaware and continued his Telecommunications career with Connectiv Communications, and transitioned to Cavalier Telephone in 2001 where he served as the Executive Vice President of Operations until 2010. He then continued his career as an independent consultant.

Jim's passion included his love for cars, Phillies baseball, good Blues music, and NASCAR racing. His love for these activities was only second compared to the love he had for his family and friends. He was a friend to all who knew him. You could always count on Jim for a lively conversation on any subject that surfaced.

Jim is survived by his wife, Holly Vermeulen; parents, Steve and Norma Vermeulen (Benton City, WA); sons, Tim Vermeulen (Los Angeles, CA) Jeff and Mike Ruane (Moscow, ID).

A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 26 at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek from 6-8 pm where the memorial service will be held on Friday, January 27 at 11 am.

We were shocked to hear of Jim's passing. He was a man of integrity, strength, intelligence and more than anything, a man of his word. Needless to say, he was one of a kind and we have yet to meet anyone like him. Like many have said already, he would give you nothing but the truth, whether or not you liked it. Jim was a person we truly enjoyed being around, both on and off the job. You will be missed by many, Jim, and were taken way too young.

Our sincere sympathy goes out to all of Jim's family. Jim was my older cousin and I have fond memories of him when I was quite small in Billings, MT. I was lucky to see him and catch up a few years ago. I know he will be greatly missed!!

To all that knew and loved Jim, my prayers are with you. Jim's passing is a tremendous shock. Jim was one of a kind! He was never afraid to speak his mind when something wasn't right and to tell you what you needed to hear, not necessarily what you wanted to hear, which I admired and greatly appreciated. Lives will forever be changed because Jim was a part of those lives. I am thankful that I was given the opportunity to work with Jim. He will be deeply missed.

My deepest sympathy for your tremendous loss. Jim was larger than life and it was a pleasure to work with him. Whenever he came to the Cavalier Richmond office, you knew things were going to get done or you better be prepared to explain why not! He was a terrific leader, but many never got to see the unbelievably generous side of him- he was quick to support our charitable endeavors and to quietly work behind the scenes when someone needed a helping hand. He will truly be missed by everyone who had the honor to know him.

Jim you have been one of my most dedicated customers that I have ever had. We will always remember how meticulous you were with your vehicles. It has been a priviledge and an honor to know you and to be of service to you. You are one of the nicest people I have ever met. Jim you will be missed.

I was both privileged and honored to have Jim as a boss, a mentor and most importantly as a friend. You could always count on him to have your back, to offer encouragement or a strong dose of honesty when needed. Jim was passionate about his work, his family and his friends. You could always count on him to liven up any event or activity with his enthusiasm and infectious laughter.

Jim, I thank you for all you did for me both personally and professionally. You will be sorely missed, but always remembered.

Shocking and sad. My condolences to all that loved him. Life gets replaced with eternity, Cavalier gets replaced with ... I've lost track. None the less, Jim's contributions to both remains.

RIP, Jim.
