Jean Frampton Obituary

Jean P. Grant Frampton Of Wilmington, DE died on Wednesday, April 23, 2003 at St. Francis Hospital after a short illness. Born on February 27, 1919 in Wilmington, DE, Jean was the only child of the late Carroll B. Grant and Ella May Murphy Grant. She graduated from Wilmington High School in 1937 and married Joseph C. Frampton in 1939. Together Jean and Joe created a safe and loving home, raised 3 daughters and celebrated 60 years of marriage before Joe1s death on January 20, 2000. The center of her close knit family, Jean came from a long line of "quiet feminists". She taught her daughters to value their worth as women, to think for themselves and to respect history and tradition. She also taught them the practical skills she thought necessary for one to be a "good wife". Creative, compassionate and curious, Jean had a sharp mind, quick temper, infectious sense of fun and a fiercely loyal and passionate nature. She enjoyed her daily newspaper, had a special place in her heart for all living things, especially her cats, and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Atonement. Jean is survived by her children, Maryellen F. Birk, JoAnne Sammons and Nancy J. Frampton, all of Wilmington; her sons-in-law, David A. Birk and Francis J. Sammons, Jr.; her sister-in-law, Regina Sinclair of Whiting, NJ; her brother-in-law, Glenn Baer of Collegeville, PA; and 2 nephews and 2 nieces. The burial service will be private. Memorial service information will be provided at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the United Methodist Church of the Atonement, 3519 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703; or to the Kentmere Nursing Care Center, 1900 Lovering Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19806, her home for the past 3 years.
