John Willey Obituary

John E. Willey, Jr. "Johnny" Age 54 of Georgetown, DE died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at home after a long illness. Mr. Willey grew up in Seaford, graduated from the Peddie School in Cherry Hill, NJ and attended the University of Richmond before returning to Seaford to join the family business. Johnny was the president of Peninsula Oil Company, which also owned and operated the Uncle Willie's convenience stores in the area. He was a past board member of MAPDA (Mid-Atlantic Petroleum Dealers Association), a member of NPGA (National Propane Gas Association), past president of the Oil Heat Association of Delmarva, and a board member of NORA (National Oil Research Alliance). He was on the board of Baltimore Trust, and was a past member of the advice committee for Sussex Trust and Wilmington Trust. Johnny was a member of the Sussex Pines Country Club, the Rehoboth Golf and Country Club, the Seaford Lions Club, and the Nanticoke River Yacht Club. He was a past member of the Seaford Golf and Country Club. Johnny was the son of John E. Willey Sr., and the late Virginia Elliott Willey. In addition to his father, Johnny is survived by his wife of 10 years, Evelyn Willey; son, John E. Willey, II and his wife, San, of Bridgeville; daughter, Heather Willey of Seaford; and 2 stepdaughters, Toni Alvaro of Millsboro and Staci Banks at home. Also surviving is his sister and brother-in-law, Judy and George Slacum of Georgetown; and 4 grandchildren, James, Eric, Joshua and Lexie Willey. The funeral service will be held Monday, March 15th, at 2 pm at St. John's United Methodist Church, Pine & Poplar Sts., Seaford, where family and friends may call from 12-2 pm. Reverend Edward R. Wilkins will preside. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Seaford. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Delaware Hospice, 600 Dupont Hwy., Suite 107, Georgetown, DE 19947; or to the Zoar United Methodist Church, 24463 Gravel Hill Rd, Millsboro, DE 19966.
